Map Instructions

You can use this guide to creating hemp application maps.

How to create your Hemp Application Map and GPS coordinates

Outdoor Growers:

  • Total acreage
  • Legal description (township, range, GPS)

Indoor Growers:

  • Total square footage
  • Full address with GPS coordinates

3. Calculate Your Grow Area

Indoor (Square Footage):

  1. Measure length × width in feet
  2. Example: 50 × 20 = 1,000 sq. ft

Outdoor (Acreage):

  1. Multiply length × width
  2. Divide by 43,560 (sq. ft in one acre)
  3. Example: 600 × 400 = 240,000 ÷ 43,560 = 5.51 acres

Use Google Maps to help

Using Google Maps to Calculate Acreage

  1. Open Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps
  2. Find Your Location: Enter your field’s address and zoom into the grow area.
  3. Activate the Measurement Tool:
    • On a computer: Right-click and select “Measure distance.”
    • On mobile: Press and hold on the starting point, tap the menu icon, and choose “Measure distance.”
  4. Outline Your Field: Click or tap along the field’s edges to create a polygon.
  5. View the Area: Once the shape is complete, Google Maps will display the total area.
  6. Convert the Units to Acres:
    • Square Meters × 0.000247 = Acres
    • Square Feet ÷ 43,560 = Acres

Using Apple Maps to Calculate Acreage

5. Sourcing Clones (Start Strong)

Start your grow with healthy, high-performing genetics — it makes a huge difference in your success.

At BlackTree Farms, we offer:

  • CBD and CBG clones from proven genetics
  • COAs and compliance paperwork included with every order
  • Support from real growers who’ve done this before

We’re based in Oklahoma and understand the local environment, compliance process, and market.

6. Compliance Tips

Stay compliant throughout your grow season — inspections and testing are part of the process.

  • Be ready for site inspections at any time by ODAFF.
  • Submit a Pre-Harvest Inspection Request Form at least 30 days before harvesting.
  • THC levels must be below 0.3% (measured after decarboxylation).
  • Keep detailed records — planting dates, test results, clone certificates (COAs), and more.

✅ Tip: Start small if it’s your first grow — it helps with record-keeping and compliance.

7. Register Your Farm with FSA

Before you grow, you’ll need to register your land with the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) — this is required to access any federal programs.

Find your local USDA office:

USDA Service Center Locator

Bring key documents like:

  • Property deed or lease
  • Personal or business tax ID

After registration, you’ll receive a Farm Number — you’ll need this for federal support programs and crop reporting.

📌 FSA registration is free — and it’s a one-time step unless you change land.

Tips for First-Time Growers

  • Stay compliant — ODAFF can inspect your site at any time
  • Keep detailed records (planting dates, COAs, THC tests, etc.)
  • Monitor THC levels (must stay under 0.3%)
  • Start small if it’s your first season
